Funck’s Family Restaurants & Mini Marts opened its doors at its original location in Palmyra, PA in 1969. This nearly 40-year old landmark business is still owned and operated by the original family, and in keeping with their family tradition of serving delicious Pennsylvania Dutch cooking at reasonable prices, is now managed and guided by the 3 sons of the its founders, Ray and Ruth Ann Funck.
Both Ray and Ruth Ann Funck were raised in Christian families on farms in Lebanon County, PA. They started out in the restaurant business in 1969 with a Tastee Freeze franchise, a fast food restaurant specializing in ice cream and burgers. Eventually the Palmyra location was rebuilt and became Funck’s Family Restaurant in 1983. In addition, in 1975 they had opened a small restaurant at Fort Indiantown Gap which was rebuilt into a Funck’s Family Restaurant in 1988. Then in 1994, the Palmyra location was remodeled and expanded with a new larger dining room with banquet facilities accommodating groups of 20 to 200.
Over the past nearly 40 years, Ray and Ruth Ann have expanded a single business location to now include two Funck’s Family Restaurants featuring homemade dinner specials, and three Mini-Mart convenience stores offering a variety of sandwiches, snacks and beverages, and gasoline service.
Today their 3 sons, Gary, Alan and Matt Funck operate and manage all aspects of the businesses including their Fort Indiantown Gap gift shop operated within the Fort Indiantown Gap-based restaurant, which is accessible on their Website offering their famous home-made Shoo-fly Pies and a variety of quality Pennsylvania Dutch food and gift products. |
